Kenya Honeymoon 2007: Mombasa and Tiwi and Diani Beaches

Downtown Mombasa at Night Matthew at Fort Jesus in Mombasa Sunset over Tiwi Beach

Kenya's ancient seaport Mombasa has an amazing wealth of architecture, historical buildings and places of worship. We took a self-guided walking tour of Fort Jesus and Mombasa's Old Town. We visited several places of worship along the way: the Bohra mosque, Ithna Asheri mosque, Khonzi mosque, Hindu Lord Shiva Temple, Swaminaraya Temple, Sikh gurdwara, Jain the Holy Ghost Cathedral and Mombasa Memorial Cathedral.

We then head south a few miles to Tiwi Beach, where we pretended to live by the gorgeous Indian Ocean in our very own little beach cottage. We combed the beach for cowry shells, explored the lagoon and lounged on the beach.

We also spent a lot of time at Diani Beach, where snorkeled, visited the monkey at the Colobus Trust, walked through the sacred forest of Kaya Kinondo and ate at the most romantic restaurant in the world, Ali Barbour's Cave Restaurant, which is located in an underground coral cave.
